Warren Shiel is a Sydney-based designer and maker, currently finishing a Product Design degree. He works mostly in timber and metal, making objects slowly and by hand.

He rents an apartment, which turns out to be a useful design brief. Most of the things he wants for his space: a proper lamp, something on the wall, a shelf that doesn't look like it came in a flat-pack. All of it needs drilling, patching, or a conversation with a landlord. So his work starts from a real constraint: objects that belong in a considered home without touching the walls. Things that stand, lean, rest, or hold their own weight.

The underlying belief is simple: beauty is a function. Not decoration, not performance. Something that works on you even when no one else is in the room, an environment built from objects you actually care about rather than ones you settled for. Warren designs for that feeling: the private experience of living well with the things around you.

He's currently developing his first line of studio pieces alongside his studies.
