Perch
Perch is a brass cantilever lamp designed for the picture rail: the thin strip of moulding found in almost every rental apartment, usually ignored. No hooks, no nails, no asking permission. The arm slots onto the rail and holds itself through weight and geometry, the cantilever balanced so the shade hangs exactly where it should.
The pleated shade softens the light into something warm and diffused, and the braided cord runs the length of the arm before dropping to a pendant, adjustable in height so the light lands where you need it. Every material was chosen to age: the brass will patina, the braid will soften, and the pleating will hold its form.
Perch is part of an ongoing exploration of what it means to design for rented spaces: objects that commit to a room without leaving a mark.
